Different modalities to help with this type of Edema

There are many things that can help with this type of edema. This is an edema where fluid is lost from the intercellular space to the extracellular space when in a sitting or standing position. The most helpful treatment is taking prescribed Adderal or Dexedrine which is taken "off label." This means that the side effect of this medication helps the body rid itself of the excess fluid, helping it from spilling from the intracellular to the extracellular space in the body. An example of another "off label" medication would be using a medication for erectile dysfunction and then finding out that it lowers blood pressure. Individuals may use this medication for hypertension even though initially it was designed for some other medical issue.

Other things you can do: We tend to take on fluid with changes in the barometric pressure. This condition is often worse in the warm weather but it is different for each person. Getting a dehumidifier can help keep you from gaining more fluid at least while you are at home. Personally, when my dehumidifier goes over fifty, I am much more symptomatic. I ordered mine from Amazon and am very pleased to have one upstairs and one downstairs in my home as it makes me retain less fluid.

Compression wear can keep fluid out of wrists which can cause Carpal Tunnel when the fluid is localized there. I may have Carpal Tunnel on a Monday, and it may be gone on Tuesday if the weather changes and dependent on how well managed the disorder is. There are shirts and gloves that can be worn under clothes or even to bed at night.

Massage and massage on lymphatics: A good massage therapist can help move some of the fluid as well. Lymphatic massage is gentle and you can do some of this on your own as well. More to come about this later on website.

Lipo Light with the LED pads is normally used by people that have cellulite or wish to lose inches before a certain occasion. I have found in the literature for Lipo Light and from personal experience, that it helped me lose 4 pounds in 24 hours. It is costly at about $500 for about twelve sessions. Prior to going on the medication, it helped me rid myself of a lot of the fluid and feel better until I was in remission again. I would use the sessions when the fluid was really bad and so these sessions lasted for a while which was great. I have not looked too much into home versions but you would need one with a decent number of LED pads to help remove a decent amount of fluid. This aspect is not advertised as the amount of fluid loss would vary and cannot be guaranteed.

Acupuncture, acupressure: These modalities can also target the areas and can help you release some of the fluid. You would at least need to do this weekly to see benefits. At least that was my experience. I always had to urinate badly after an acupuncture session.

Herbal Medication: Some herbal medication can mimic Dexedrine or Adderal and can be effective for some individuals as long as you know where these herbal medicines come from, how grown, etc. You can usually get these from an acupuncturist you trust and they often work with an herbal pharmacist to make to your specific needs.

Keeping your feet elevated when you can, especially if you are not on medication yet.

These other modalities may help as a combination but again cannot replace the medication for treating this disorder. Every little bit helps though.

Footbath to remove toxins, Hydro pressure bed, Reiki, massage, Chiropractic care, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Yoga, Stress reduction. My experience is that these modalities cannot replace the medication for this disorder, but in addition can be very helpful in maintaining a high quality of life.

Sodium intake should be like everyone else except for those who hypertension and disorders which may be more restricted. This type of edema is not affected by normal sodium intake.
